Hillsong New York City is drawing young New Yorkers by the thousands. Since starting weekly services in February 2011, the church has expanded to five services with an estimated 3,000 people attending each week. "For us, we just do church how we like it," says lead pastor Carl Lentz. "When I go to church, I want to go to the biggest meeting with the most people and the craziest music ... that's how we're wired." We talk to Lentz about the first year has really gone, what's working, what isn't and what's next for the much-hyped church plant. Subscribe here.

Ryan Meeks and his staff are used to the responses now. The shocked expressions aren’t about the size of their church, or even the explosive growth—six years after they started Eastlake Community Church just outside Seattle, the attendance is rapidly approaching 5,000. What most church leaders can’t quite wrap their heads around is how Meeks and his team are doing all of that with only 24 paid employees. In our annual leadership issue, we talk to Meeks about his innovative hiring strategy, his deeply motivated volunteers and why running a church on less actually has more impact. Also in this issue, exploring the leadership lie, how to lead small groups out of a rut, leadership insights from Richard Stearns, Craig Groeschel, Nancy Ortberg and more! Subscribe here.

The glut of books and blog posts in the past six months on the subject of hell and the afterlife point to a collective uncertainty in today's Church when it comes to life after death. While opinions may differ on the subject, people are holding to them passionately and the debate hasn't always been a nice one. But is there an orthodox belief on hell? We unpack the historical context of this conversation and take a look at four views on hell. Plus, conversations with Francis Chan and Rob Bell on their beliefs about the afterlife. Also in this issue, a look at a successful local/global church partnership, conversations with Carolyn Custis James, Kyle Idleman and Whitney George.

Church leaders do their best to be in tune with the needs of their community. But sometimes the culture gap between leader and community can be wide enough that it can be difficult to understand their needs. In this issue of Neue, five authors write about the issues they’ve faced that they’ve seen neglected by leaders in the past. Plus, we look at how a church in Orlando raised more than $5 million for the homeless in a day, the effect of 24/7 Prayer in Ibiza, Spain, and the spiritual formation of The Message author Eugene Peterson.

No one wants to admit when something isn’t working. In this issue of Neue, we look at one of the starkest examples of failure in the Church today—our theology of sex. Also, we look at the good and bad of church marketing, and get a first-hand account of the persecution of Christians in Iraq.

Sometimes you have to step away to see clearly—something Francis Chan is learning firsthand. We talk to the popular author and speaker about his self-imposed exile and his passion for radical church. Plus, Jesus Culture tells us why they've found hope in a generation of cynics, and we go behind the scenes of ministry marriages.

John Mark McMillan is trying to find a new language for worship. We talk to the emerging artist about creativity in the faith community, why "How He Loves" resonates with believers and starting his own church. Plus, Ted Haggard talks about the restoration of fallen leaders, Philip Yancey embraces doubt and Gabe Lyons describes the next Christians.

Controversy is never far behind Mark Driscoll. We talk with the Mars Hill pastor about doctrine, what keeps him up at night and why he believes immature men are the Church’s most urgent crisis. Plus, articles on finding a third way between emergent and traditional, what to do when ministry isn’t going as planned and N.T. Wright talks character.

Every leader knows the tension of leading when your heart isn’t in it. In this issue of Neue magazine, we talk with Hillsong United on leading authentically—no matter how you feel. We also look at the future of church conferences, how to reproduce church and why remembering the Supernatural is critical.

In the premiere issue of Neue magazine, 11 leaders—including Rob Bell, Scot McKnight, Mark Driscoll and Mark Batterson—offer their most urgent question facing the Church. You'll also find articles on the dangers of copycat ministry, our love/hate relationship with the church and creating a culture of collaboration.
